Tate Mr. Godfrey, C. P. Ballamainaghbeg in 1837 Pigot note CP = Captain of Parish ie a high status role and NOT a police constable (no Tate is in the list of Police constables - see http://www.ee.surrey.ac.uk/Contrib/manx/people/police/list.htm
)Godfrey Tate must have had money as CP went to leading landowners - in 1819 he was Tate, Mr. Godfrey, Merchant, Douglas. (see http://www.ee.surrey.ac.uk/Contrib/manx/fulltext/ls1819/subs.htm)
was a leading merchant in 1817 as signs newspaper report pledging support of Quayle's banknotes
in 1843 he was a magistrate (again high status role - policemen were near bottom of ladder!)
