Union Mills - no Pricilla Lewthwaite covered that village in detail both in her booklet (out of print!) and also at a talk last week at IoM FHS
there is a brief footnote p 98 in vol 5 of new history (Isbn 0-85283-726-3) re 1888 poor relief act of tynwald - allowed local authories to set up poor ayslums - initially in douglas, castletown + 4 parishes (unnamed) by 1894 - initially operated as ' hospital and infirmary of the destitute' redesignated house for the poor in 1900 - ref is to 1900 statement of accounts of the asylum board which is where I think I saw the double ref to H.ofI. and also to poor home (will check at end of June when next in Manx Museum) - this might indicate that the poor house was associated with Ballamona (Lunatic asylum) and why I recall some reference to Tromode area
