My great-great-great grandfather "Daniel Corcoran and oldest brother, John, were exiled to the 'Isle of Man' during the Irish uprising, because of a family heirloom, a sword, was found under the hearth stone by the English."
I don't know the exact date that they were exiled. I do know that my great-great grandfather, Daniel J. Corcoran was born August 1823 at County Cork, Ireland - to his parents, Daniel Corcoran and Catherine Hayes. Catherine Hayes is supposed to be related to a famous singer - Catherine Hayes.
I am not familiar with the history of Ireland or the history of the Isle of Man. So, I do have a couple of questions to ask. Is this the Isle of Man where the Irish were exiled to? If so, were the exiled Irish shipped someplace else like Austrailia from the Isle of Man - or were they permitted to stay and live a normal life on the Isle of Man?
I am hoping that someone on the board will be able to help.
Thank you very much.
