No - the Deemsterships (there are 2 North + South) were in the gift of the Lord until 1765 after that in gift of Westminster though with candidates suggested by the Lt Governor - however until the restoration of the Stanley Lords post civil war the Christian family was probably the leading family and did get its choice of appointments
