Blair, I decided to look for possible siblings of Mary Ann Craine b 1827 who had settled in Louisiana or Texas. I found the following:

This fits well with the “1834 arrival in New York” details of the Ann Crane / Mary Ann 7 / William 6 / John 2 you and David have mentioned. The compilers of the trees mentioned above have all speculated that John Frederick Crane’s parents were “John and Rebecca” but I can’t see any proof of this. It seems much more likely that the parents were John Craine and Ann Cannell (mis-recorded in Mary Ann’s baptism entry as Ann Cannon)
