I've researched the Patrick link over the years. William Kelly's Will, 179( not sure of digit ?)5 refers to his son Robert. His wife Ellinor Kelly died July 1790 Children's uncles on mother's side guardians. Patrick Callister and Patrick Sayle.. No oral history to fall back on. Need to work on this again over the winter. Robert kelly who married Catherine Quayle in KM (both of this Parish) June 1808 were as far back as I could previously go 100% correct. Now as Wills and P.Rs on line hope to make more progress. I just looked again and FS had Rk being christened in KM and son of the Rock family. Ages, geographic area, and family names of children all fit.
Re my line.
My mother was Nancy Kelly, daughter of Robert Edwin Kelly. He had a wooden leg from W W One. His father was baptized in KM December 1860,named Robert Kelly, illegitimate son of Elizabeth Kelly. This Robert was blinded in a mining accident as a young man. In 1881 Census he is at a trade school in Liverpool, wrongly recorded as Richard (!) Kelly from IOM. Took me years to find him. He trained as a basketmaker. He returned to IOM. He died aged about 35, from his mining accident injuries. He met his wife, Jane McGinn, as a nurse in Liverpool. Their children, Robert and Alice were both young, under 5. So we know very little of his background. I could never understand why Jane McGinn was not supported by his family, as you would expect.
My family were surprised when I found RK in 1851 census as living in KM.
Rk's mother, Elizabeth, daughter of the illusive Robert Kelly. born in Patrick is at the manager of Laxey mines house in 1861. She was wet nurse to his son Frederick. She left her baby Robert with her mother in KM. Again his name is hardly legible and recorded as Mills. He is a few months old. Elizabeth went to England as family Nurse to the eldest daughter of Rowe's children when she married. Elizabeth died in London in 1902. I have her death cert. stating daughter of Robert Kelly.
so she was not in IOM to support her dead son's young family.
