Re: Location in Ramsey
In Response To: Re: Location in Ramsey *PIC* ()

Hi Averil

Thanks for this - I do have most of this in my messy notes, with a few variations.

There is a Maughold MI (V16) for Jane Kneen:
Jane Kneen / was buried / here 13th April / 1784 / aged 57 years.
But this is Jane Kneen als Stole (Will: 1784-1 Mau E d 0106398).

My list of Kneen baptisms/burials in Maughold b/w 1745 and 1765 with father John Kneen (leaving out any that name the mother)

Baptisms
--------------
^Jane 21Nov1748
*James 22Feb1749
John 10Apr1750
*Elinr 31Mar1752
*Margt 18Mar1753
^Jane 18Oct1754
Edmond 31Jan1755
Ewan 24May1756

Burials
----------
A child of John Kneens 06Jul1747
^Jane infant of John Kneens ?Jun1750 [not 1751 - the order of the pages indicates 1750]
John Kneen infant of John & Cath Camaish 20Jun1750 [not 1751 - the order of the pages indicates 1750]
^Jane infant daur of John Kneen 30Dec1755
Willm. son of John Kneen 8Jan1758
*Elinor daur of John Kneen 23Jul1764

Thoughts
-------------
*James and Margt are probably ch of John Kneen and Elinor Crow. Elinor Kneen als Crow d 1758, her will/decree mentions ch. John (b 1746), James and Margaret. Elinr could also be of this family - in any case she seems likely to be the one buried in 1764.

^The two Janes above could be those listed in the burials. One or both of these could be dau of John Kneen and Jane Camaish. Elinr could also (a suspicion that Jane Camaish's mother was called Elinor...)

Ewan and Edmond are somewhere in my notes... right now, not sure where they fit in. And Willm, too.

This leaves John 10Apr1750 as a possibility of being John Kneen Jr (i.e. son of John Kneen Sr and Jane Camaish). The trouble is the burial only a couple of months later of the infant son of John Kneen and "Cath" Camaish. There is no record of such a marriage - could this be an error in the record and it should be Jane? And then there has to be another John after this one. I just can't find any baptisms that fit either way.

Aaagh!!! [hair being torn out].
