looking at lib assed for Cottages in Castletown part of cottage 77 in 1780 12.5d was in name of Alice Crellin + husb John Cubbon + 11d in John Cubbon's name - Cottage rent 77 had been subdivided since 16th century but was in Church Street (today's Malew St) near junction with Water Street (you will find a plan of this on MNB under Castletown - Alice's name coming first indicated that she brought the land into the marriage (Manx law reflected old Norse law where man + wife were equal partners in a marriage) John's 11d is probably that given by his in-laws - Alice's part prob descended from parents tho I can't find their purchase as in 1740 Hen Harrison + Ann Harrison + husb John Kewish occupied it
