A few more thoughts:
Birthplace of Elizabeth Lacy nee Clague as stated on official documents:
1870 census b Isle of Man
1880 b New York
1898 grave marker ---- b England
1900 census of son Edward Thomas Lacy b 1864 -----mother b Isle of Man
There seems to be a good case for believing that she was born in the IOM.
I have a question mark over her birth year. The person who gave the information for the grave marker (son Edward or daughter Susie ?) knew her birthday but may have never known the actual year of birth (no civil registration of births in IOM until 1870s). Cyrannus understated his age at each census (apart from 1900) and Elizabeth probably did, too. Can anything be read into the fact that Elizabeth married in 1864 and had her last child in 1869 ? Had she reached the end of her childbearing years ? Could she have been born in the 1820s ?
