Yes, that sounds very plausible. The family were probably in such turmoil around the time that John Thomas was born that his baptism was overlooked, and they finally got around to arranging it when he was about 6. I wonder whether the handwritten entry in the parish register has a note which gives his birth date or his age at baptism.
