I have hit a roadblock on my Cork(h)ill family tree at the union of Thomas Corkill and Elizabeth Lewin in 1800. By way of parish records, I have been able to determine this union produced: William Corkill (bpt. 1801, Douglas), Thomas Corkill (bpt. 1802, Douglas), Elizabeth (bpt. 1804, Douglas), Robert (bpt. 1805, Douglas), John (bpt. 1813, Douglas), and Margaret (bpt. 1821, Douglas). By way of witnesses on the abovementioned children’s death and marriage records, I believe that a Robert (b. 1808), Philip (b. 1815), and Ann (b. 1819) were also siblings (maybe cousins too). I found a marriage record for a Thomas Corkill and Elizabeth Lewin in Kirk Michael on 8 Dec 1800, which meshes well with the birth of their first child William about October 1801.
Can anyone with superior IOM records knowledge or genealogical skills help me get past the union of Thomas Corkill and Elizabeth Lewin? I would be in your debt.
Also, was it fashionable for people from the Douglas area to go to Kirk Michael to marry?
