Re: Parish Records.
In Response To: Re: Parish Records. ()

Sorry, Kurt, I didn't notice that they hadn't included the earlier records. For future reference the most fool-proof way of finding the parish register film you want is to find a different child's bapt from the same family on FamilySearch, then look at the bottom of the page to see the batch number, and then click on this number which should take you to the description and number of the film the bapt was copied from, and the dates it covers. There are often several LDS films (filmed at different times) for the same dates, so I would choose the one they have used for the old IGI (now FamilySearch).

These are films I have used:
Isle of Man, Kirk-Braddan - Church records: Baptisms 1626-1849 Marriages 1683-1713 Burials 1713-1817 Family History Library British Film 0106708.

Parish register transcripts of St. George's Church (Douglas), 1743-1895, includes: Baptisms 1781-1853 Marriages, 1786-1896 Burials, 1790-1892 Family History Library British Film 0106717

Parish register transcripts of St. Matthew's Church (Douglas), 1705-1883, includes: Baptisms, 1705-1848 Marriages, 1730-1753 Family History Library British Film 0106718

Parish register transcripts, 1743-1822. Author: Church of England. Parish Church of Douglas (Isle of Man) Format: Manuscript/Manuscript on Film. Parish register transcripts Film 599082 Item 8 - meaning that it is the no.8 parish contained on that film. I haven't seen this film and would be wary that it might not be what I was looking for, being only one of several parishes included.

I also haven't seen this film:
Church records, 1809-1848
Author: Atholl Street Independent Chapel (Douglas, Isle of Man)
Church records Family History Library British Film 0106721 Item 1

The Family History Centres usually allow you to order several films at a time, and you would need to look firstly at the church which you know the family used (mine had bapts at 3 different churches), and then at the other possibilities. It is also well worth looking at burials and marriages for the family members where you may pick up information like a place where living, or an occupation.
