Do censuses say when they arrived in the US? Were any children born pre-US? If so where, and have you checked for the marriage cert in that country? Have you bought children's birth certs to find their mother's surname? (No point guessing.)

The marriage cert is usually the best source for parents' names in order to trace them back further.
