Jim

There is a Statute (Act of Tynwald) listed under 1419, but Jim Roscow worked out it actually dated from about 1500. It says 'Corbes pertaining to a man;
a pann or best pott
a jack and sallett
bow and arrows
sword and buckler
best board and best stoole
coulter and rackentree
best cup if of wood, bound with siver and gilt
best chest
Corbes for a woman
best wheele and cardes
rackentree
a sucke or Mancks spade
the best beade oif jet or amber
the best broach
the best cross
the best pott or pann

Jim wrote a paper on this in the antiquarian proceedings

&c is simply etcetera. We still use & for et (and) plus c. stands for cetera!
