James Robert Shimmin, s/o Robert and Sarah Frances nee Bell, b 1881 was my 2nd cousin, twice removed and the grandson to James Bell (my 2nd grt granduncle). James Robert Shimmin had lost both his parents by 1890, therefore he was being cared for by his grandfather (James Bell). James Bell was a widower by this time, so a difficult task to undertake on his own.

The Manx Museum forward to me some time ago, a copy of a photo of the Commercial Hotel operated by James Bell, and I had attached these notes -

32, 33 N. QUAY, DOUGLAS, ISLE OF MAN
This photo was taken circ. 1890-1900 and was situated near the top end of the Douglas Harbour adjacent to the slipway. It was located three buildings away from the still existing Bridge Inn in the direction of the railway station.
