thankyou - however the compilers of my OED seem to have missed that usage restricting themselves to the musical instrument + many usages derived from it, verb to drum (up) + the gaelic Drum which means ridge and was used in geological terms ; the nearest is possibly via the phrase by the drum ie by public announcement- can you provide a reference please to your found usage (a web link or title of a book would be appreciated)
