Re: Female Wills. Joney LACE d.1788

Hello Mrs Rosa,

Unfortunately I don't think these ones would help you with your Caine family, because there were so many Cain(e) families in the IOM at that time, and many had the same forenames. Most people in this will came from Andreas. Joney Lace who left this informative will was the daughter of William Lace and Ann Kneal of Ballavarry farm in Andreas. As the eldest daughter, and with no brothers, Ann Kneal inherited Ballavarry when her father Philip died in 1732 (according to DS Dugdale). He wrote that William Lace (1691-1758) was the second son of Dan and Joney Lace of Ballavoddan, Andreas.

Joney's sister Bahee [Bridget] Lace married David Cain of Jurby and died in 1769. Frances has a summary of her will on Manx Notebook:
1769-1 A 22 CAIN Bridget d 1 mar 1769;ch patk,david,ann,mary;husb david exor;ann + mary ua - unnanmed next of kin.
David was bapt 4 March 1710 Jurby son of Pat Cain & Alice Teare, which is where her gt grandchild's "Alice" name would have come from.
