I suspect he is son of William Dougherty + Isabel Cain married German 17780314 when William noted of Andreas
the Dougherties had farmed here from at least 1727
according to book 'Andreas' they left in 1813 and John + Jane sayle moved to Ballvastyn (aka Ballavastyn-by-Leodest) but the 1841 census def had Dougherties there - Edmund + jane + 6 ch- they would appear to have gone by 1851 so I suspect book is incorrect and date of Sayles is 1843 not 1813 which ties in
