As some may have noticed over last month or so I have OCR'd the index to these done in 1990's held on paper in Manx Museum - I have re-arranged in alphabetic order of names - see www.manxnotebook/famhist/willsums/epiwills/index.htm

I have also summarised all those for Patrick,German, Michael + Ballaugh found on EW18 - interesting there are 2 marriage contracts (one explicitly agreed to act as a will) + a note that gives parents + gparents of a legatee that were not in the index.

BL indexed some of the later films himself - the MM indexers looked in more detail at the wills and their index is generally by married name of the woman

BL also mapped some wills onto the wrong film - possibly he believed the 'years covered' in the LDS description to be correct (explains at least one case for me of a fruitless search) - he does however have a who block of some 50 names that I cannot match to any entries in the MM index.

However in looking at the number of films in the museum EW series and the LDS films there would appear to be a possible missing film between EW12 and EW13 - comments from other researchers welcome - I don't have easy access to the LDS films so not sure if one of the MM films has merged two LDS films - I havn't looked at these earlier films yet as still working on post 1650's in my west of Island parishes - the lib vast for these parishes for this period is in course of being added to CD Rom (Michael + Ballaugh done, Patrick missing a few years, German to start soon)

I'll leave it to the Fam Hist Soc to match up the two set of indices. There is a solitary new index to an archideaconal film - RB516 that covers 1655 - 1662 which I will add in next day or so - I may also add some of the later EW films though the index used by BL to construct his index is generally good and most married women post late 1690's were indexed under married name.
