Thank you Jean,
Brian Lawson had given me the 1871 census details of the Kermode family when I was chasing my g grandfather Samuel Kermode born Birkenhead. His mother Ellen Kermode nee Cottier died in 1871 on the IOM and he then lived with his grandmother Frances Kermode nee Mickleby. Thank you for finding my GGG aunt Francis, I think you are right and she is the one living in Scotland in 1871. I realise now that it was her brother James who was married to Frances Callow. I already had that information but failed to see that she is possibly the one referred to in the February Journal and the same Frances Kermode listed as "wife of butcher" in lunatic asylum b Douglas 1871 and 1881.
Now I will have to get onto yet another Frances Ellen Kermode, this one the daughter of Ellen Cottier Thomas Kermode (son of John Kermode and Frances Mickleby. This one was born 1853. The information I have on her is - Birth June 1853 Kermode Frances Ellen W Derby Volume 8b Page 247- Christened 24 April 1853 Saint Peter, Liverpool Lancashire England, Thomas Kermode, Ellen parents. I believe she stayed in Liverpool when the younger children went to live with their grandmother on the Isle of Man. I assume Ellen Cottier died on the Isleand as she is buried at Braddan Ellen KERMODE, of Douglas, age 40, buried 30 Mar 1871 Plot 2957 source The Braddan Cemetery burial records (transcribed by the Isle of Man Family History Society) This is next to the other graves of my Kermode family, which I found on my last visit to the Island in 2010. Thank you for helping me solve another of my 'Frances Kermode' puzzles. I will look at the Fanny Kermode on the New york passenger list to see if I can view it.
Regards Denise
