Quite a mystery.
Have you considered the possibility that James Kewley b 1783 was never married to the mother of Lewis Philip b 1840 ? Might this account for the word "natural" in this extract from his will ?
"...... upon my natural son Lewis Philip Kewley Kewley now living with me ….”
If that were so, his birth would be registered under a surname (as yet unknown ) and the christian names might be Lewis /Louis Philip Kewley, which would fit with the curious name of Lewis Philip Kewley Kewley (I thought it was a typo, but the 1871 census entry seems to confirm it)
Do you think that the middle names of two of Lewis's children (Constantine and Platt) might be significant ?
If you haven't looked for monumental inscriptions yet, maybe something might come to light from them.
