Hello Mary M
Interesting information about the cottage in Patrick...that is the type of info I am looking for...any info on Margaret Vick would also be valuable. ..do you by chance have a photo or exact map location of that cottage. My cousin Leslie plans to visit the island and I would like to pass on that info to her. I understand that the Callin family were farmers near Peel ...the cottage at Patrick woud appear to confirm that..
It is easy to understand why Robert Callin left the mining industry for the Constabulary in Douglas...I assume his mining experiene was in the Foxdale area.
As a child growing up with my grandparents I remember a painting of a large passenger ship docked at the Douglas Pier, I seem to recall it was on the Promenade in the Douglas harbour but' it was a long time ago....i walked along that promenade but do not know if that vessel could have docked in that area..
Thanks to Paul..I have a wonderful photo of my grandfather
( Charles Gordon ) in his army uniform, presumably WW1 as a Lieutenant. however I have
been unable to determine which military unit he belonged to, it appears to be a military police unit of some sort.
I have researched the history of the Douglas prison but the name Callin does not appear with the chief constables and other senior staff. I would like to know the years he served as chief jailor....i understand that my great aunt Jesse Blanche callin was born in the prison housing and that Robert Callin was a very religious man,
Thanks again for your support in my search
