can't find any Kearns (or similar) in michael in 1861
(only Kerns on Island are John + Ann running an eating house near Pier in Douglas

however there is a John James Kerran gson to Christian Cowley age 7 born Michael who looks suspiciously like an illeg s/o of the also resident unmarried dau Mary Ann Quayle - is the 1881 entry (a shared house with many occupants) misread?

I also suspect the wife's name is misentered
