Hi Francis,
Hmmm! It's a long time ago (at least 50 years) but if my mental picture is correct, I would have expected it to be on the right.
The house that I remember visiting was that in which Lewis Crellin b. 1901 lived in with his wife and daughter.
Maybe the photo is of another 'family' house to the one I remember. The photo is from my deceased mother's belongings and a note on the back is signed by E and L Teare. Lewis Crellin was adopted by their parents, John and Mary Teare, so this may be the parent's house. In the 1901 Census, the Teare family are recorded in a property in Lower Foxdale, and on the same census page there appears to be a "Post Office / Tailors shop" 3 properties further on. In the 1911 Census the family is recorded at "Ivy Villa, Lower Foxdale".
I take it that the house you are refering to IS the one in the photo - the aspect of the sun in the photo looks correct for it to be on the left hand side and facing south, which makes me wonder if I am wrong in thinking that it is / was the house of Lewis Crellin which I remember visiting or "Ivy Villa".
I've been searching on the myGov.im website and looked at the postal code IM4 3EG that you quoted, but this shows "Ivy House" on Higher main Road, Foxdale, rather than "Ivy Villa" and, from the map, looks to be a semi-detached !
I wish there was another family member to ask, but that's no longer the case, apart from Lewis Crellin's daughter, with whom I've lost contact a long time ago.
regards
Tony
