I apologize. I now believe that the ironmonger and the furnishings person are one and the same. On checking Pigots again I have found that (Furnishings and wholesale) are in brackets however the entry is shown in the 'Ironmongers'
section. It seems that he had his fingers in many pies. Perhaps he went to USA to further the Methodist calling or maybe he was just fed up with the opposition he was receiving on IOM>
