Your information is too recent for most public records in the IoM and therefore for most people on this BB to be able to help, unless they actually remember him, as you suggest.

Have you tried looking for a will for him, which might answer some questions? As you have his exact date of death you could try asking the registry whether he left a will, and if so the cost of photocopies and postage: www.gov.im/registries/general/civilregistry/
