Re: M.I. Mark Christian please Donna?

Hi Donna,

Many thanks for looking for a MI.

Yes, Mark's widow Margaret could have been the one who died in 1860, rather than the one I wrote with a "?" - of Lewaigue, buried Maughold Sep 23 1870.

They were in Port y Vullin in 1841 - but they were in Lewaigue in the 1851 census, with Mark aged 68 b.Maughold and wife Margaret aged 58 b.Lezayre, Cathrine daur 23 employed at home, and son Mark 13 straw rope maker Ag lab., both b.Maughold.

These are the only two Mark Christians in Brian's 1851 census index.

Then son Mark dies soon after the census when he was almost 14 [bapt 23 July 1837]: Mark CHRISTIAN, 14, Port y Vullin, buried 12 Jun 1851.
So son Mark was of Lewaigue at the end of March, and as you say, of Port y Vullin only about two months later.

I was unsure again as to whether this was Margaret in the 1861 census at a cottage on Lewaigue, because her age was wrong, but because she was again recorded as born Lezayre, and still with daur Cath., I thought it possible:
Margaret CHRISTIAN Head WID 76 Pauper Lezayre
Catherine CHRISTIAN Daughter UNM 27 Labourer Maughold
Robert CORKILL Grandson UNM 1 Maughold

What do you think?

They married in Nov. 1814, so Margaret Kissack born between about 1780 and 1797 (Mark Christian b.1785).
There were two bapts in Lezayre between those dates - Margaret daur of Isaac Kissack & Mary Kinley bapt 17 Aug.1792, and daur of John Kissack & Elizabeth Quayle bapt 5 Jan.1793.

Mark and Margaret's eldest daur was Elizabeth and eldest son John. No Isaac or Mary, for what it's worth.
