Re: James & Esther Camash
In Response To: Re: James & Esther Camash ()

I researched these people a while ago but have since been sidetracked and haven't investigated further:

I reckon James is a 3rd great-granduncle. I found the following record on the IGI:

James CAMAISH

Sex: M

Event(s):
Christening: 8 Sep 1811

Andreas, Isle Of Man, England

Parents:
Father: Stephen CAMAISH
Mother: Isabel MC NAMEER

Apparently, James married Esther Gawne on 17 Aug 1839 in Jurby and left for Australia in 1841 (source: an e-mail dated 19 Dec 1997 from cwatters@qldnet.com.au at genealogy.com/comaish). I tracked down Cherryle Watters in May 2002 and she confirmed that her ancestor, James, had 5 children. He died around 1850. Esther remarried and lived to 75!

No further information.

I reckon that Stephen Camaish and Isabel McNameer are my 4th great-grandparents, via their daughter, Isabel born 15 May 1808, who married James Boyde in 1832.

However, I haven't proved this because there are a couple of James Boydes on the Island at the time and I haven't been able to sort out who is who!

Happy to discuss!

James
