Another Starkey Conundrum

Hello to all, wherever in the world you are!

I have another couple of small knots I have been unable to unravel with online access only, so I thought I'd post here in the hope that those of you with more information to hand, may be able to 'fill some gaps'.

Due to lots of help from here (a special thanks to Mary M!) I have traced 2 lines of Starkeys - however, I know they are linked, but I have been unable to find the join.

John James Starkey (b. about 1873, Maughold) was the son of William HT Starkey and Jemima (spelt Jennina in the 1891 census).

I have some useful info on John James, but his father William is proving more tricky. I THINK I have him in 1851 aged 3 months, living in Maughold (but I couldn't actually see an address!) with a family called MARTIN - William is described as 'nephew'. If this is my William, he would have been born 1850/51, and his 'where born' is Bride, though in later entries, the same (I think) William is described as originating from 'Isle of Man', and Ramsey...

There appears to be no match for him in the 1861 census, when he would have been about 10 or 11. I would love to know who he was living with by then!

The next possible sighting I have of him is 1871, by which time he is married to Jemima (nee Cain) and they have a son, William T.

By 1881 they have grown to a family of 6, living at 3 Kinrades Court, Maugh - having 4 boys - Wiiliam 11, John James 9 (my JJ I assume) Walter 5 and Edward 2.

In 1891 they have extended their family still further to include Mary Ann and Sarah.

In 1901 a very likely William H Starkey is the right age, but is it the right William, because he now appears to be married to Ada C and living at 16 Strand St, Maugh. I have looked in Brian's burials and found an Ada Charlotte (Kinrade) Starkey died 20/6/1900 age 71. However, there is no record in Brian's burials for Jemima - so I wonder did she die? Did they divorce? Have I got the wrong William? I haven't found a birth entry either for Jemima Cain - she is described as originating from Lonan.

Also of course, I'm trying to discover where my Thomas Henry Starkey (b. ABOUT 1859) links up with William's son John James. The 2 families are definitely related, of that I'm sure - I simply cannot find the join though! Thomas Henry's father was a John Starkey, mother Elizabeth Mary (nee Quayle).

Incidentally - Philip may be interested to know that there were indeed 2 Gladys Starkeys! One, as you know married Claude Henry Joughin in 1923 - she was the daughter of John James & Elizabeth. The other Gladys was the daughter of Thomas Henry and my Gt Gt Grandmother, Sarah Heaney. I'm certain the 2 families are linked, as I said, but I'm really finding it difficult to place them. One of the problems being their habit of using the same forenames in both families through generations - so many Johns, Thomas', Williams, Edwards and Henrys, I can't work out which is which from census to census.

Can I just finish by saying a very apologetic thanks to Sue, Jean, Pat, Sandra, Marie and Philip? I sorted out my files last weekend, and discovered several helpful messages from them, which I'm not sure I acknowledged at the time! If I did, obviously, it still stands, if not, then THANKS - a little late, but no less sincere for that.

Regards
Maggie
