Information from family in Rochester New York, where Esther married Edward Qualtrough (about 1855 I am told) has it that Esther arrived in Rochester, New York "via Toledo" which is at the western end of Lake Erie near Detroit, Illinois. which would mean she probably came via the Great Lakes (ie St Lawrence) If she had family in the area ( ie John) then that could answer questions I had for myself - that of Did Esther/Ester go alone to US? or Did she do to visit family/friends.

Are you sure that John & Robert went via New York?
