A branch of the Lawson family came to the Island around 1600 with the arrival of James Lawson, probably from Scotland or Northern England.

The earliest one from this branch that we can document as emigrating to US is Joseph Lawson, a Mormon, in 1860.

The name Barbour rings a bell but I can't lay my hands on the reference right now.
