Brian, Thank you for your help. On the 1881 IGI census if gives Ann's age as 31, Elizabeth and Philip, both 15 ( I thought that they were twins at first and then after seeing the christening dates presumed that one had just reached 15 and the other was about to turn 16 but it is more likely that Philip was 13* see below), Jessie is 10. On the original return for the 1891 census for Barrow in Furness Ann's age is shown as 42, *but we all know that the ages usually have a mark across them which makes them difficult to read - perhaps this is the reason. I am awaiting delivery of the 1901 census for Lancashire, on disc, when it is released and will check her age again. Is there any way that you could find a death for William Henry, reportedly killed in an accident in Laxey.

Thank you very much for the information you have given, it is very frustrating when you live so far away and cannot research the census returns personally.
