Index of papers in HO 99/16 - 1765-1816

HO 99 contains the papers sent to the Island - generally to the Governor or Lt Governor depending who was in residence at the time. HO 99/16 is the first volume and includes papers sent between 1765 and 1817 arranged in calendar order, - there are two further volumes HO 99/17 and HO 99/18 that cover my period of interest. Each volume has an index and this is what is transcribed here - however the index only gives the name of the recipient and the page it will be found on - the actual document needs to be seen to find the author and the date sent - the date received on Island may be many days later One of the earliest provisions post Revestment was the establishment of a regular Packet Boat from Whiitehaven which also carried the mails.

The Summaries contain several common abbreviations, trans = transmitting, respg = respecting, rel: = relating [to], S of S = Secretary of State, Quant = Quarantine
