Alexander Bruce

Alexander Bruce, was born at Banff, Scotland in 1844, and after apprenticeship to the City of Glasgow Bank, came to Ramsey to take up a responsible position in the Bank of Mona (a branch of the City of Glasgow Bank). Soon after the collapse of the City of Glasgow Bank, in 1878, he was appointed General Manager of Dumbell's Banking Company. He was made J.P. in 1893, and acted as Town Treasurer for Douglas.

Though formally charged, the case against him over the failure of Dumbell's Bank was not pursued because of his illness - he died on 14 July 1900 before the main trial began.
