Methodist Chapels in the Isle of Man - Statistical Returns 1940

The Wesleyans made a series of decenial statistical returns giving details of each chapel.
This is the first such return post union of 1932 and thus included the Primitive Wesleyan Chapels then extant.

This is copied from the Statistical returns of 1940 District XXIII. ISLE OF MAN DISTRICT and published 1947.

From these returns it would appear that the south, based on Castletown, was well on the way on amalgamating the two traditions whereas in the North old rivalry still held sway. It was not however until the 1960's that dwindling congregations and finacial pressure overcame decades of rivalry and forced the merger and closure of many close-neighbour chapels.

NOTE the W/P column is my addition to the return for ease of determination of the Chapel History - it is not on the original.
