Clemens, etc. Venerabili fratri Willelmo episcopo Sodorensi salutem, etc. Pridem Sodorensi ecclesia solatio destituta pastoris, nos ad personam tuam claris virtutum titulis insignitam nostrze mentis aciem dirigentes, to de fratrum nostrorum consilio eidem ecclesim in episcopum prmfecimus et pastorem, curam et admini-strationem ipsius tibi in spiritualibus et temporalibus plenarie com-mittendo prout in nostris inde confectis litteris plenius continetur. Cum autem postmodum per venerabilem fratrem nostrum Ber-trandum Episcopum Ostiensem tibi fecerimus munus consecrationis impendi, fraternitati tua, per apostolica scripta mandamus, quate-nus apostolicm sedis beneplacitis to conformans apud praedictam ecclesiam Sodorensem cum nostrm benedictionis gratia to person-aliter conferees sic to in administratione ipsius diligenter et sollicite gerere studeas, ut utilis administratoris industriroe non inmerito gaudeat se commissam ac laudabilis fame tue odor ex tuis probabilibus actibus latius Viffundatur, et preter retribu-tionis eternæ premium nostre benevolentie gratiam et favorem exinde uberius consequaris. Clement, etc., To Our venerable brother William, Bishop of Sodor, health, etc. The Sodor church having been some time ago bereft of its pastor, We, directing Our attention to your person distinguished by a reputation for great virtue, with the advice of our brethren appointed you Bishop and pastor of the said church, fully committing to you the care and administration of the same both in spirituals and temporals, as is set forth more at large in Our Letters of that time. And having there-after caused the rite of consecration to be administered to you by Our venerable brother Bertrand, Bishop of Ostia, We now enjoin you, Brother, through these Apostolical letters to betake yourself personally in conformity with the directions of the Apostolic See to the said Sodor church, strengthened with the grace of Our blessing, and there strive to conduct your administration with such diligence and solicitude that your church may reasonably rejoice that it has been entrusted to the zeal of a provident administrator, and that the odour of your fame arising from your praiseworthy acts may be widely diffused ; and that, in consequence, you may obtain, besides the reward of eternal life, a more abundant share in Our good-will and favour. Given at Avignon, the 6th May, in the seventh year of Our Pontificate.
