[From Manx Soc vol IV,VII & IX]
AUFRICA de Connaught, heiress of the land of Man, to all friends, and to her people in the same land, Greeting and grace. Since we of our good pleasure have given and conceded all our heirship and right in the said land of Man to the noble and powerful Simon de Montacute, knight, as is more fully con-tained in a certain charter which we have caused to be made to him; we earnestly entreat of you, and command all of you to kindly receive the aforesaid lord Simon as your own lord, per-forming in like manner to him whatsoever ye were accustomed to do to myself, and also ought of right to perform if we ourself were present among you. In testimony whereof we have caused these our present letters to be made patent, and to be sealed with our seal. Dated at Brugewater, in the County of Somerset, on Thursday the vigils of the Annunciation of the blessed Mary the Virgin, in the year of our Lord 1305. |
