LETTERS OF SAFE CONDUCT FOR HARALD.

A.D. 1250.

THE King to all, greeting. Know that we have granted permission to our beloved and faithful Artald, [Harald] the illustrious King of Mann, to come to us in England, to confer with us, and to perform towards us what is due. Therefore we command you, that ye inflict not, nor permit to be inflicted, any loss, injury, annoyance or grievance, upon the said king, either when coming to us in England, or whilst dwelling there, or when returning thence, nor upon his people, whom he may bring with him. And if any offence shall be committed against them, that ye make amends to them, without delay. In testimony whereof, etc. to endure until the Feast of St. Michael, in the 34th year of our reign. Witness the King at Winchester the 28th day of December.

EX omnibus salutem. Sciatis quod licentiam dedimus dilecto et fideli nostro Artaldo, illustri Regi de Mannia, veniendi ad nos in Angliarn, ad loquendum nobiscum, et faciendum nobis quod, facere debet. Et ideo vobis mandamus quod ci Regi, in veniendo ad nos in Angiiam, vel ibi morando, vel mdc redeundo, nullum faciatis, aut fieri per-mittatjs dampnum, injuriam, molestiam, vel gravamen, vel etiam homjnjbus suis quos secum ducet. Et, si quid eis forisfactum fuerit, id eis, sine dilatione, faciatis emendari. In cujus, etc. duraturas usque ad festum Sancti Michaelis, Anno regili nostri xxxiv.
