EXCURSION TO CORNA, MAUGHOLD,

24 JULY, 1913.

Mr. P. M. C. KERMODE, Leader.

The party assembled at the Corrony Bridge, and during the day there were 28 members and 11 visitors present.

Taking the miners' road and passing Glion y Spreeagh (pronounced Yuan y Spree) and the Yuan Barrule, an easy ascent was made to Keeill Woirrey, which had recently been cleared out and examined. Here the Leader referred to the loss of one of the Society's earliest members, Mr. John Christian Crellin, who had always taken an active part in its proceedings. As one of the founders of the Society, he was ever a most consistent and encouraging supporter, and would be particularly remembered for his long series of interesting Reports on the Zoology of the Island.

Lord Raglan and Deemster Callow having expressed their sympathy and their appreciation of Mr. Crellin's services to the Society and to the Island, the Leader gave a. description of the Keeill and of its Crosses, one of which had come to light in the act of excavation. For other Keeills (since described and figured in Part iv of the Archaeological Survey) were inspected during the day, and in Ballaglass Glen the Leader pointed out the ancient mill-race and ruins of the mill, which had been worked by a small horizontal wheel about four feet in diameter. The pool or mill dam was still known as ' Ling ny mullin-beg.'

Gob y Garvain was visited at the southern promontory of Port Mooar, where there is said to have been a fort.

At a meeting at Ballafayle, the following were elected members of the Society :-Mr. C, Paton, Mr. W. W. Gill, Canon Owen and Miss Owen.
