Lutwidge requests access to Ingates & Outgates

Sir
Immediately upon my return here I waited on the Governor, and consulted him how far I could produce the Books of Imports and Exports, for these Ten Years past, as by you required, who is now of Opinion, that upon Your producing any proper Order or Authority for that purpose, Your request ought to be complied with.
I have agreeable to Your desire sent You a Copy of the Book of Rates, and shall always be ready to give all the Assistance in my power for securing his Majesty's Revenue, and answer the end of Your appointment, and am
Sir
Your most Obedient humble Servant Dan Mylrea

Castletown 15th June 1765

Notes

These Ingates and Outgates give full details as to when, what was imported from where and by whom together with the value of the cargo and duty paid. These books which never returned to the Island leaving a gap in the records provided Lutwidge a full account of how much the Treasury lost due to the Island trade.
