The surviving Goverment papers concerning WW1 Internment on the Island include several lists of ""Alien Enemies residing in the Isle of Man" - that for the quarter ending 30th September 1918 is given here. Most were British born wives who had gained permission to live on the Island so that they could visit their husbands - they would need to be relatively well off to be able to afford to rent property. There were however a few who pre-war had been resident on the Island. Several other lists exist - such information was still being collected as late as 31 March 1920.
There is also a note of Police interviews dated 3rd July 1919 with Mrs Heynemann, Mrs Nussbaum, Mrs Tagtow and Mrs Friedberger re their future intentions - all these had children attending schools in Douglas.
