Manx Residential and Day Technical College for Women

9 MONA TERRACE, FINCH ROAD, DOUGLAS.

SESSION 1928-1929.

Council of Education, Murray House, Douglas, Isle of Man.

The Manx Residential and Day Technical College for Women has been established by the Council of Education out of an endowment settled for such purpose by the Trustees of the Will of Henry Bloom Noble.

The primary object of the Noble Trustees was to assist in a practical way the business of catering for visitors. But it was realised that, at the same time, most valuable facilities might be provided for the training of women of all classes who either in business or private life have the responsibility of housekeeping and household work.

The funds thus placed at their disposal have enabled the Council of Education to secure the services of Teachers of the highest standing in their profession, and to obtain and fit up premises centrally situated and combining the accommodation of a house with the necessary lecture and demonstration rooms of a College. Extensive additions were made in 1926.

The Council have had the valuable assistance of representatives of the Boarding-House Keepers' Association, and have framed the Syllabus to meet their views.

From Easter to June each year, the Council will be prepared to arrange special short Courses at the College at very low fees (2/6 for ten lessons) for the benefit of persons living in districts outside Douglas. :

The Council desire to emphasise the fact that the object of the College is of an entirely practical nature. The premises are equipped in the same fashion as the ordinary private and boarding-houses throughout the Island.

External Examiners of the College have assured the Council that the standard of the College is equivalent to that of Colleges on the Mainland, whilst the fees are very much lower.

The Council invite the co-operation of all bodies and persons interested in household work, and will gladly welcome any suggestions for widening the usefulness of the College.

Special arrangements will be made for members of Clubs, Societies, — etc., if a class of not less than twelve is guaranteed, and application is made before 19th September for the type of class and time desired.
