[Report by Gov Lindsay] No 16 [July 27 1748]

May it please your Grace

The subject matter of the declartion here inclosed is of the highest importance to your Grace. I have therefor sent another copie of it to Mr Solicitor Murray in a lter to him whereof I have inclosed a copie to your Grace; Both go by a Liverpool pillot boat.

The consequence of such proceedings is so evedentlie hurtful to your Graces propertie here that no other arguments need be used to determine your Grace to use the most proper means to have them check'd without loss of time.

I am so much concerned by this occasion that I can hardly write any thing else - At present we have little cash on hand. But there is a good deal due as soon as the harvest comes on, the collectors are to go about amongst traders but unless these violent seizures of private propertie at sea are speedilie stopt, your Grace will have no occasion for collectors, other than the parish moars - we are now makeing every thing readie for the audite of the last years amounts, which whall be sent your Grace by the first sure occasion.

My last of 19 May No 15 consisted of three covers wherein were inclosed the several papers relative to it, we have since June seen a pamphlet handed about here privatilie araigning in a scurilous manner, the government, or rather the lawes of this Isle all founded on the imprisonment of Mrs []ton for debt, and an abuse which Baldro[] says he received from one Kewlie a tailor, which I never heard of, till I saw it in this libell, which is addrest to the present Lord Chancellor - but these practices of the Wolfe sloop of was, are of so much importance to your Grace's interest here, that they ingross all my thoughts now wee shall detain the boats crew until wee have directions from your Grace, but shall use them civilie and take care of their subsistence for they have no money - I am with sincere esteem .
