My Lord
The day after your Grace left Edinburgh I departed from thence and arryved the Sunday following and find little or no business has been don here this three months occasioned by one large shipe cast away upon the Coast of Portugale and two or three shipes taken by the English Privateers and Carryed into England and Ireland.
But within this fortnight matters looks a little better so hope in a few months to say some what that will be agreeable I must alow the Merchants a little time before a demand is made upon
I landed att Ramsey and called upon the Bishop in my way hither find that neither his Lorsh nor the Clergy like the Project of your Grace selling the Tyths They I find would be glad to Purchase them providing that my Lord Derby would buy from them the £220 British he is obliged to pay the Clergy every Monday after Easter Two difficultys was started by the Clergy the first was whether your Grace by the Act of Parliament could sell the Tyths The second was by the Settlement your Grace made upon Lady Charlotte &c Whether your Grace reserved a Power to alter that Settlement I told them that I was fully satisfyed your Grace would not offer to sell Tyths or any other thing if the Purchasors were not safe to Pany? I find it will be some time before every Parish can be Planned out and then to remove the Difficultys that will be started upon the occasion
This day the Receiver and Controller are gon over to the Bishop to pay the Money due by your Grace to the Clergy
I am &c
