Act" which was much needed as delay in passing it had caused much confusion, This was because the Keys "not being suffered to opprose and do injustice" would for a long time not pass Acts which were for their own good and that of the Island, He has now got them in a good humour,however, by agreeing to the passage of certain private Bills. (Should be "Style" for establishing the new calendar, N.M.) |

Though Parliament has met there has as yet been no mention of the sale of the Island or the leasing of the Customs,so Sir James Lowther's news can be safely contradicted. He has appointed Mr.Hammersley as Register of Appeals from the Island which are to be heard in London by the Solicitor-General. |

a coffee-house in London. (copy) Harrisen to Griffith. (copy) advising the receipt of No. 26 from Mr.Christian of Grigsby's Coffee-house,London. Had the Duke been advised he would have given the necessary orders that the Whitehaven busses should not be molested so long as they observed the laws and practices which the Manx boats did. |
