[Letter to Duke of Atholl re Mr Arthur, nd [1766]]

May it please your Grace

In a letter of the 22 Decr last, your Grace was pleased to enclose an application from Mr Arthur for your Grace's licence on a plott of ground on Douglas Quay, and intimating your Grace's inclinations to accomodate him in what he wanted if proper to be granted - It seems about ten years ago, he by indulgence built a stable and coach house there, but Govr Cochrane did not chuse to give him a title to it. His application now is for an additional plott for a yard and convenience thereto, and to have both comprehended in one grant. As this is so near the harbour, we beg leave to transmit a plan of the place, and wait your Grace's pleasure He proposed paying 5s a year for the Lot No 2 which he says can give no umbrage, as it was built & occupied long before the late change, and is a higher rent than is paid for the Intack near adjoining, containing sixty yards square; and offers to pay for the lott no 3 in proportion - Mr Arthur, who is removed to Ireland, returned lately to this Isle and occasions our now troubling your Grace upon the subject.

Your Grace will herein receive Mr Kennedy's Bill dated the 3d inst on Mr Mackenzie for £251 12 1 Brit at ten days sight, which we hope will come safe to hand and are with the greatest respect and regard

Your Graces most obedient and most humble servants

Dan Mylrea, John Quayle
