[From Atholl Papers - AP_123(2nd) -5]

[James McCrone to Duke - 7 June 1821]

Castle Mona 7 June 1821

My Lord Duke

I send you herewith a lease of the Lime Quarries for three years from the 12th May last, in favor of Thomas Brine which your Grace will please sign before witnesses, and return to me. This lease is granted more for the sake of experiment than for profit, though it will yeild profit too, but it is especially granted as a proper foundation to give Brine possession and to have the usurpers turned out.

I also send your Grace for signature, a lease of Ballaughton Mill &c - Saml Hill, the present tenant pays ill, and is in considerable arrear, and I have kept the premises advertised for letting, for a long time, and this is the highest offer by £30 that I have received, and £50 @ Ann above Saml Hills offer with security.

I hope your Grace will approve of this lease, which is only for a short period till we see whether the agricultural interest shall revive.

I am &c
