(128) Rock Mill

From 1868 O/S Plan X.13 - SC 319804

Larch Garrad describes it in 1975 as "the building — of local stone, with a slated roof and comely wooden shutters on the windows of its upper floor — survives although the wheel has been removed and a vehicle shelter erected on its site. Its style is typical of Manx farm threshing mills, such as may also be seen at Scholaby and Glen Grenaugh"

Not indicated on plan as a working mill, an 1899 article states it was a threshing mill - there is a reference in "A Trip to the IoM in 1802" to a horizontal mill about 6 miles from Douglas on the Peel Road - this would fit this mill, with the ruined St Trinian's Chapel serving to attract the attention of the visitor. It is likely that the threshing mill, as described by Larch Garrad in 1975 dates from the early 19th Century.
