From 1868 O/S Plan XI/2 - SC 434844 |
From an advertisement for the mill as used pre WW1, based on an embellished sketch by Egbert Ryding of the extended mill. The mill in 1996 - the shop occupies the old dye-house - the outflow from which was discharged into the river by a drain under the road. |
The 1868 plan shows Moughton's corn mill at the confluence of the Glen Roy & Laxey Rivers - bought by Rydings and associates in 1879 and converted into a textile mill, partly with a loan from the Ruskin Guild of St George.
Some of the machinery came from the recently closed Bowring Woollen mill, whose site and water rights had been purchased by Douglas Water Works Co for a new reservoir.
