(27) Glen Wyllin Mill (Harry's Miln)

From 1868 O/S Plan VII.5 - SC 316901

extracted from a postcard "in Glen Wyllin"

An earlier photo shows a building to side of Mill shown above - the two weirs in the river can be seen. The tall chinney stack might be that of a kiln

The mill, usually referred to as Mullen Harry or Harry's Mill, with 12s Lord's rent and generally placed first under Mill Rent in the section of Lib Assed listing mills paying Lords rent - these high rents are generally water corn mills.

John Kelly of Money Mollagh was owner of two mills both in Glen Wyllin - Moaneemollagh, shown on 1868 plan as "in ruins" is about 1km SE of the Mill. One a corn mill known as Mullen Harry or Harry's mill and the other a flax mill - in 1799 there were two sales each of one third part of this flax mill

NSS May 1801 1

The Setting quest would appear to have rated the small area of ground with the sluices, races etc as 1d rent split between the now 3 owners of equal one-third shares.

Around 1817 John Kelly raised money from Henry Colvin by a B+S using Harry's mill as security - however he would appear to have fallen behind with repayments which along with other debts resulted in a coroner's sale of the two mills:
